Last Sunday I remember being a little weepy about the fact that I was going to be a stay at home with no one to stay at home with. Then we went to church where Jack was being a pill, to the point that he bit Brendan's arm. I got over my misty moment pretty quickly, and then was sure to keep a safe distance between Jack and me as I was sure that he was going to be struck down before we hit the door! Don't worry, he wasn't.
Sunday night as Bryan and I decorated the kitchen for the first day of school breakfast I started feeling excited for the next morning, and I thought about my first days of school. I remember we always had new crayon, because Grammy said that every new kid should them on the first day of school. Now my mom makes sure that her grandkids have new crayons for their first day of school, and I put some on my September mantel as a nod to those fabulous ladies.
As I was laying out the backpacks and getting the lunch boxes ready I remember making the trip to Grammy and Bart's house to show off our new clothes and backpacks before we trekked off to school.
I wish we could do that now, but the pictures and the phone calls seem to make up for it, not really, but that's what I will keep telling myself until they build an Army base in Massachusetts!
Anyway, the kids had a great breakfast and we very excited about the celebration for their first day of school!
I'm not sure when it happened, but it seems that we have some kids who have done some growing up!
Rory has somehow wound up in 2nd grade..
Brendan is in all day Pre-K..
The week went very well for everyone, even if it took me a little time to adjust. This week things will be different, homework will start and my free time is now gone with lots of volunteer activities, but we are all looking forward to see what the year has in store for us!

Ginger, the Professor and Gilligan (minus the silly hat) go to school!
While they might not get to show-off their back-to-school gear to the grandparents, your kids will have so many memories of how you decorate and celebrate every occasion!
Yay for new crayons.
