She came!!

It was a pretty day big in our house....the tooth fairy was making her first visit!!

About a month ago Rory had been complaining that he bottom teeth hurt, I was hoping that it was just the natural teeth movement and that we would soon have a wiggler!  About a week after the first complaint of pain, there was another complaint, and this time when I checked, sure enough there was a tooth coming in just behind her baby teeth...aggghhhh!!  We got into the dentist for the regular 6 month check up, and that's when the Dr. said the word..."Extraction".

I thought Rory was going to burst into tears, be asking about needles, etc...but she was so excited!  Her exact words "The tooth fairy is going to come for my 4 teeth, and maybe she'll leave me a big diamond ring!"  The dentist almost fell off his chair!  He said in all his years he had never heard that one, well he had never met Rory!

The big day came, and Rory was still all excited about the tooth fairy coming, and the money (maybe $2) and the big diamond ring!  Even in the car ride over she was still excited, just a little bit nervous, but it was nothing I had expected!

Look at that smile, would you think that she was about to get 4 teeth pulled?

When the time came, the hygienist came into the waiting room, called her name, and off she went...she never looked back!

When she was all done I wasn't sure that she was going to speak to us again..the cotton in her mouth, the the little scratch down her chin from when she flinched when the gave her the Novocain, and just that sad drugged look in her eyes.  Bryan carried her out to car and that's when the tears started, and then stopped.

Once we got home she just lost it, and I have to say that the first time you have your mouth numbed it is pretty freaky!  Poor girl just wanted it to be over and wanted to be able to feel her bottom lip and not the entire glass of water spilling down her shirt!  The gifts that we left for her on her bed went a long way to getting over the "weirdness" of the situation.  If I was her, the new Barbie car and Treasure Buddies movie would have helped me too!

Later in the afternoon once the feeling had come back in her mouth and the "blooding", as she called it, stopped, our girl was back and wanted me to take some pictures!

It is really crazy how you can see the adult tooth right there, and the second one should be in soon!  Good thing we made some room!

Bedtime finally arrived and the special Hello Kitty tooth fairy pillow safely held her 4 tooth, and she was off to dreamland.  A check on her later that night revealed a handwritten note to the Tooth Fairy on a tissue!  She wrote her name, and told her that she had not 1 but 4 teeth for her and how much money would she leave for her..ha!!

When she woke up the next morning she came running into the playroom where I was getting Brendan ready for school and said "I know that she did not leave all of this for me!"

There was a $5 bill and a very special $1 coin, a handwritten note and the biggest diamond ring ever!!  The ring was by far the big thrill!  The HUGE diamond made all the pain a little easier to deal with!

It's times like these that I know that she is growing up, but I hope that she still believes in all of these magical things for just a little bit longer...
